Movies and Cookies

We’re having friends over tonight for a marathon of Airplane and Airplane II.  This will necessitate tea, Yorkshire pudding, brownies, bourbon balls, and oatmeal raisin cookies.  The oatmeal raisin cookies were my grandmother’s specialty and my dad’s favorite.  Here’s the recipe, with some notes on how I have to modify it to get the cookies to turn out right.

Bob’s Favorite Cookie

3 eggs
1 cup lard (or butter or margarine)
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup sugar (but ¾ cup works better)
2 cps flour
2 cups raisins
½  teaspoon baking soda
½ cup of hot water (I heat it in the microwave to make sure it’s HOT!)
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix sugar and lard – whip in eggs – dissolve soda in water.
Add flour with baking powder – add oats, raisins, and vanilla.

Bake 375 for 8 minutes. (I generally find that 11-13 minutes works best, though.)
