Buying Things

I usually buy Christmas presents while I’m on vacation but who knows if we’ll get to go on a vacation this year. So, friends, if you are expecting a gift from me, it may very well be that I already have it, as I have been spending part of my life while in lockdown on the internet buying stuff on Etsy and Ebay. So…..Merry Christmas?

Are you a fan of dogs?

Maybe you need this bracelet – charms are dogs and pawprints, and the main color is pink! This one’s now been taken, but I can do something similar because I have more dog and paw print charms! Let me know if you’d like something like this and it wouldn’t have to be pink if you prefer another accent color.

You Need a Venus in Your Life

I’ve added more things to the online store, including a pendant that includes a small antique silver-colored Venus of Willendorf. You know you need her in your jewelry collection! SOLD!!

YouTube Playlists

If you haven’t checked out my YouTube channel yet, here’s what you can find there:

Sounds of Sands: the playlist where talented people read my work, either short stories or the first chapters of my novels.

Writers Wroom: either me talking about writing, or other writers talking about writing

Getting Nosy With It: enthusiastic people (some writers, some not) who share the kinds of things that drive them and that catch their attention. Writers are never satisfied and are always learning new things; see what you might learn from these videos.

Spoilers With Friends: deconstructing horror movies or other bits of media with friends. And we’re serious about the spoilers—nothing will be considered a secret here: it’s all fair game!

Infernal Intercourse: Pastor Brian Antonio and I discuss the TV show Lucifer because we both like it and want to talk about it. I thought it would be interesting to have these conversations with someone who is both fan of the show and a minister.

Junque: unique things and updates; basically, the stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else.

I have plans for other playlists that are currently on hold due to the current pandemic-inspired lockdown. But in the future, I hope to be recording radio plays and 5-minute movies. Stay tuned for more information later! But we have to get through this shelter-in-place period of our lives first.

Stop on by, subscribe, like the videos, and make sure to leave a comment! I will certainly appreciate it.

Twitter

So, I’ve tried Twitter before but was really bad at it, like I am bad at blogging. But, trying again…. you can follow me @MarellaSands

Envelopes!

Now, if you order anything off this website, you will receive your bit of jewelry or bead soup in a fancy envelope with pineapples on it! I saw these and couldn’t resist. Now you have no reason NOT buy my stuff!

Here We Go Again

Hi! I’m Marella Sands, author of books like Restless Bones and Through a Keyhole, Darkly. I finally looked at this site again and realized I hadn’t posted anything since…(drumroll, please)….2013!

Needless to say, I’m not a very good blogger. So, let’s try this again.

First: I now have a YouTube Channel. Go over there and subscribe, why doncha? I’ve got videos featuring me and Pastor Brian Antonio discussing the theology of the TV show Lucifer; I’ve got videos of people reading the first chapters of my books and some of my short stories; I’ve got videos of me and my friend Anne discussing horror movies; and more.

**Learn how to make a Gooey Butter Cake (a St. Louis thing) of the maple variety, topped with candied bourbon nuts. If you want to make a basic cake, here is one easy recipe. You can find multiple stories about who invented the Gooey Butter Cake and when, but it definitely happened in St. Louis.

**Listen to Aaron AuBuchon of Webster University discuss horror fandom.

**Know anything about West African languages? Here’s a video where Steven Awiba (aka Yaw) discusses his online efforts to spread knowledge of Twi, an Akan language of Ghana. Do you know what your kradin (soul name) would be in Twi? Mine is Akosua. Watch this video from Yaw to learn yours. Yes, it’s a video on the days of the week, but your soul name comes from the name of the day on which you were born, so don’t think I’ve sent you to the wrong video.

**Hear Michael Long of Webster University discuss writing radio dramas.

**Watch a short compilation of some of the amusing signs I saw on our 2008 trip to Britain.

Also, I’m going to be putting an online store on this site in the near future. With everything shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic, our church has had to cancel all of our fundraising efforts. We are a tiny congregation just trying to scrape by while doing our part for the community. Our congregation is Open & Affirming (that’s United Church of Christ talk for accepting everyone, regardless of gender, sexuality, or gender expression); we currently host a food bank in the basement; and we are always looking for more ways to help. Unfortunately, due to our size, we can’t help as much as we used to. There simply aren’t enough hands to go around. But we still need to meet our operational expenses. To that end, we were going to have a “Taste of Zion” event in March, an Easter Breakfast in April, and a vendor show in May. The first two are definitely canceled; the third is likely to be. I was going to sell things at the vendor show, but now I think I will do that online. So buy pretty things and help us out a tiny bit in these chaotic times. Thanks!

Online store now open! Click “Shop” at the top of the page. I will be uploading more stuff as I make it.
