Guidelines for Unscripted

Unscripted is a monthly ezine devoted to issues revolving around, and the lifestyles of, the childfree. We welcome contributions and would like to see a variety of articles, including reviews of movies, books, and video games; information on travel, pets, or other hobbies; and editorials and feature articles on the issues and current events that effect the lives of the childfree around the world.

Currently, Unscripted does not pay contributors, though we hope to change that in the future.

If you'd like to send us your work, please consult the following guidelines:

1. When in doubt, consult the Chicago Manual of Style. Make use of the serial comma.

2. Please submit articles over 600 words long. Shorter than that, you’re probably not going to be able to tackle the subject adequately.

3. Turn articles in by the 20th of the month, and be prepared to rewrite if necessary.

4. Make sure you submit a 1-2 sentence bio (more if you want) to the Unscripted editor so that it can be included on our “About Us” page.

5. Separate paragraphs with empty spaces. Do not use tabs.

6. If you want a bulleted list, use an asterisk for each line followed by one blank, like this:

* Bullet 1

* Bullet 2

7. If you would like any text to be italics or bold, please us the HTML codes, and . If you’re not comfortable with these, then the editor will insert them for you. However, anything you can do to make her job easier will be appreciated.

8. Make sure you’ve read a few issues of Unscripted so that you know what we want. Please do not send us blog or journal entries. Also, at this point, we have seen multiple articles on “Why I’m Childfree,” so if you’d like to submit something like that, please consider what’s unique about your story and use that as your angle.

9. Feature stories should be written in an inverted triangle format. Here is one site that explains what this is. Other sites around the internet also discuss basic news writing format and style. Any search engine should bring up what you need with a search on “feature writing” or “inverted triangle style.”

10. If you're serious about being a regular contributor to Unscripted, why not join our Yahoo Group?
